Division of Science Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowships

The fellowships were first awarded in 2012. Each student receives a stipend of $5,000 to support their participation in undergraduate research for the summer. Projects are usually ongoing in the laboratory and usually result in a senior honor thesis.

The fellowships are supported by gifts, primarily from Brandeis alumni.

Starting in 2016, a grant from the M.R. Bauer Foundation has similarly support fellows working at Brandeis. In 2017 and 2018, the Helaine Allen Summer Fellowship program supported 5 additional students per year. 

Students present their work at SciFest, our annual poster session showcasing the work of undergraduates doing science all over the campus. 

The annual competition usually opens in January, with an application deadline late in February.

There have been 44 supported students who have graduated. Of these:

  • 17 PhD students
  • 4 combined MD/PhD students
  • 3 MD students
  • 1 DVM student

15 students are in science research assistant/technician jobs, of whom most will go to grad school.
